Information reaching us reveal that Kogi State Government employed medical Doctors in Nigeria, have embarked on an indefinite industrial strike action. We do not have the exact details but we are hoping Doctors in that state will educate us on what the exact issues are. In the meantime, see copies of the "Resolutions" reached by the Medical Doctors below and the "Memorandum of Understanding" said to have been earlier signed by the Kogi State Government.

Remember that Resident Doctors at the Federal Medical Centre Owerri, had embarked on their own strike a few weeks back and then Resident Doctors Nationwide went on a 7 days warning strike. Which way Nigeria?

  1. The state government has owed doctors and several other workers several months of salary ranging from 6 to 13 months. The state government embarked on a screening excerise last year which lasted for 10months. During that period, several doctors salaries were stopped. When the report of the screening came out, some of doctors were told to proceed on compulsory retirement. Others were tagged as diaspora staff and some tagged as "political appointment". The doctors had no other reason than to go on strike. Other bodies like ASUU will soon join

  2. I just wonder the type of society we live in, a situation where doctors under the employment of Kogi State government have not been paid for up to 15 months yet the government doles out SUVs worth 40 million naira each to their friends and cronies. I weep for Nigeria. As if that wasn't enough, the government set up a staff verification committee that has succeeded in sacking doctors en masse and all these in a state with a severe shortage of medical personnel. May God help us.
