Jennifer Lopez: The Thin Line Between Style, Femininity & Fashion Related Mental Extremism

Jennifer Lopez, the American singer and actress popularly known as Jlo, broke the internet yesterday after the image you see below was posted on her Instagram page. Whilst many of her teeming fans have rained praises on her for not only being a style icon but a strong woman not afraid to own her firm body, others are beginning to wonder how thin the line is between: style, femininity and fashion related mental extremism.

The 49 year old super star is not a stranger to appearing semi-nude in pictures but this time, she certainly raised the bar and all I can think of is, what does it take mentally to make such an audacious fashion or feminine statement? As the years go by, people are beginning to take more responsibility for what they believe in and  in some cases decide to go the extreme length to express their true selves, as some entertainment analysts put it. What do you think about such a trend, if it were to be the next big phase, style wise? Jlo seems to be having a blast and from her "InStyle Interview" as well as one of her images posted a couple of days back, you can deduce that, she has a mind of her own and would rather life was less complicated. Do what you must without giving a hoot, who cares....

#ArethaFranklin - What Oprah Winfrey Thinks As The Queen Of Soul Is Laid To Rest

By Atlantic Records(Life time: Published before 1978 without a copyright notice) - Original publication: Billboard MagazineImmediate source: page 7, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=71697207

The one and only Queen of Soul Music, Aretha Franklin, will be laid to rest today and as I stare into my system, I am short of words to express the impact her music had on some of us as we grew to gain a better understanding of what Rhythm & Soul meant - if you were a young under-the-shower Artiste, you will understand better.  This is what ACE TV Show Host/Owner of The O.W.N Telemedia Channel, Oprah Winfrey, thinks about the Queen as she departs finally.....

Born on the 25th of March 1942 in Memphis,Tennessee, USA, the super soul sister, mother and grandmother at some point in her life, is reported to have battled with a form of Pancreatic Cancer; abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells in the pancreas - a large gland located behind the stomach that secretes digestive enzymes (chemicals) into the small bowel. She eventually passed away on the 16th of August 2018 in Detroit, Michigan, USA  and though she is referred to by some as the earliest symbol of International Feminism-demanding some RESPECT when other women kept their cool- she was the pure epitome of earthly love; making me feel like a NATURAL YOUNG MAN, every time I was blessed by her voice on that classic hit! I bet you certainly felt like a NATURAL WOMAN if you were a fan of hers at any point.

This NFL Player Was Diagnosed With Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Here's What That Means

Yesterday on Twitter, Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Travis Frederick revealed that he’s been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Guillain-Barré syndrome. The 27-year-old NFL player shared a statement detailing a weeks-long “examination and discovery process.” In the previous 48 hours, he wrote, he had undergone two treatments for the condition.

Frederick hasn’t missed a football game in the past five years, according to ESPN, but now he's facing some time off the gridiron. “My doctors have told me that it is not possible to determine a time table for a return to the field right now, but I am hopeful that I will be able to play as soon as possible,” he tweeted.

So what exactly is Guillain-Barré syndrome?

Guillain-Barré syndrome or GBS, occurs when the body mistakenly attacks its own nerves, specifically in the peripheral nervous system, which connects the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. This can result in a wide range of nerve-related symptoms, including tingling, pricking, or pins and needles sensations; muscle weakness; difficulty walking, speaking, chewing, or swallowing; pain; and, in severe cases, paralysis, which can become life-threatening if breathing is affected.

The worst GBS symptoms are likely to emerge within the first few days and up to four weeks after a person notices that something is wrong, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). After that, symptoms usually stabilize, but recovery can progress slowly over a few weeks or even a few years.

Earlier this month, Frederick sought medical care for “stingers” in his neck. “I have been told that the illness was detected at a fairly early stage,” he tweeted. In general, most people don’t seek out medical attention until they’re already experiencing weakness on both sides of their body, according to the NINDS.

As with many autoimmune diseases, experts don’t fully understand what causes GBS, but it’s thought to be triggered by an infection or surgery. Campylobacter infections (a common cause of food poisoning) are thought to be the most common trigger of Guillain-Barré, according to the Mayo Clinic. The flu, Epstein-Barr virus (best known as the cause of mono), and even Zika have also been linked to GBS.

While many autoimmune conditions are more likely to strike women, men are more likely to have GBS, states the Mayo Clinic, although it can affect anyone.

Senator John McCain Dies From Brain Tumor

Senator John McCain's long battle with brain cancer ended on Saturday, with his office announcing he passed away at 4:28 pm at his home in Arizona.

His family had announced Friday that McCain was no longer receiving treatment for glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive of brain tumors.

The 81-year-old Republican Arizona senator and hero of the Vietnam War had been undergoing treatment for the glioblastoma since July of 2017, The New York Times reported.

"Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: He had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious," his family said in a statement on Friday. "In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict. With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment."

One brain cancer expert who's not involved in McCain's care outlined the senator's likely condition in his last days.

"If there is any silver lining in this cloud, it is that patients who die from [glioblastoma] rarely have severe pain," said Dr. Michael Schulder, who helps direct neurosurgery at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y. "They gradually become less alert and most often die from pneumonia or sometimes from the direct effect of increased pressure on the brain. Palliative care can alleviate any discomfort that patients do feel."

McCain had been largely absent from Congress and Washington, D.C., since December, and sources told the Times that his family had gathered in Arizona, anticipating that death might be near.

His illness had't stopped McCain from being a political force, however. Earlier this year he criticized President Donald Trump after a summit meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, for example.

McCain is the son and grandson of four-star Navy admirals and as a soldier spent five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Over the past few decades he charted a swift rise in politics, both as Arizona senator and as the 2008 Republican nominee for the Presidency against Barack Obama.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), glioblastomas "are the fastest growing" of a subcategory of brain tumor known as gliomas. "These tumors make up more than half of all gliomas and are the most common malignant brain tumors in adults."

Each year, almost 24,000 Americans will be diagnosed with a brain or spinal cord tumor, and nearly 17,000 die from these tumors each year, the ACS said.

Schulder explained that "the course of glioblastoma progression is very different from patient to patient. Based on the tumor biology, some patients succumb to the disease within months, most live between one and two years, and some live for many years in good condition after diagnosis and treatment."

Khloé Kardashian Bares Her Beach Bum in Cheeky One-Piece Swimsuit While on Vacation in Mexico

The reality star has gained back her post-baby swimsuit confidence.

Khloé Kardashian has been very open about her post-baby fitness journey, sharing candid details of her workouts, diet and weight loss with her fans on social media. And the reality star has clearly gained back her swimsuit confidence.

Kardashian, who welcomed daughter True Thompson four months ago with boyfriend Tristan Thompson, hit the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in a cheeky one-piece (her favourite swimsuit style!) which put her famous curves on display. The new mom is on vacation with her boyfriend, sister Kendall Jenner and the model’s basketball player beau Ben Simmons.

“Khloé and Tristan seemed very happy,” a photographer source tells PEOPLE of the new parents on vacation. “Lots of cuddles and love all weekend. They definitely enjoyed themselves.”

Kardashian returned to the gym six weeks after giving birth, as soon as she got clearance from the doctor. But the star revealed it took her time to get back into her routine.

“The first day, I could not do the most simple things. I was out of breath. It was just different. And I kind of felt really defeated. Like, ‘Oh man. I don’t know if I can do this,'” she said. “After the first week I was like, ‘Okay. I am feeling a little better.’ I am not breathing so hard. I don’t need as many breaks. But I would say really after three weeks was when I felt good.”

As for adjusting to mom life, the star says she has a new-found appreciation for what her sisters went through.

“You’re f—ing tired,” she said about motherhood. “I just said to my sisters [Kourtney Kardashian and Kim Kardashian West], ‘How do you have more than one kid?’ I am exhausted. I am taking the [baby] monitor to the garage, I am trying to get [workouts] in. And it is hard. It is really hard. And you’re just tired. Your hormones are different. It is just a mindf—-!”

Earlier this month, she expanded her Good American brand with the launch of a new athleisure line featuring a size-inclusive range of workout clothing designed to make women feel confident and comfortable at the gym.

“Moving into activewear was a natural next step for Good American,” Kardashian tells PEOPLE exclusively of the exciting new launch. “When we think about new categories, our biggest priority is to always provide women with wardrobe staples, giving them options to get them through their busy daily lives and that make them look and feel their best. Fitness is my passion so I am so excited for this and can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

This behavior is completely disgusting' - Olympic champion Simone Biles opens up on sexual abuse

Four-time Olympic champion Simone Biles has said she was sexually abused by Team USA's former gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.

Nassar is serving 60 years in prison for having child sex abuse images on his computer and is awaiting sentence after admitting assaulting female gymnasts.

Biles, who won team, all-around, vault and floor exercise gold medals at Rio 2016, has said she was also abused by Nassar.

The 20-year-old Biles posted a statement on Twitter that read: "Most of you know me as a happy, giggly, and energetic girl. But lately... I've felt a bit broken and the more I try to shut off the voice in my head the louder it screams.

"I am not afraid to tell my story anymore. I too am one of the many survivors that was sexually abused by Larry Nassar."

Three former US Olympians have accused Nassar of sexual abuse, including Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney.
Biles continued: "It is not normal to receive any type of treatment from a trusted team physician and refer to it horrifyingly as the 'special' treatment. This behavior is completely unacceptable, disgusting, and abusive, especially from someone whom I was TOLD to trust.

"For too long I've asked myself, 'Was I too naive? Was it my fault?' I now know the answer to those questions. No. No, it was not my fault. No, I will not and should not carry the guilt that belongs to Larry Nassar, the USAG, and others.

"It is impossibly difficult to relive these experiences and it breaks my heart even more to think that as I work towards my dream of competing in Tokyo 2020, I will have to continually return to the same training facility where I was abused."

The 54-year-old Nassar was involved with America's world-beating gymnastics programme from the 1980s until July 2015, when the sport's national governing body sacked him.

7 Women's Sports Moments That Gave Us Chills This Year

From soccer to tennis, female athletes from every sport proved once again that they are a force to be reckoned with. Here are the moments that got us excited, gave us chills, and inspired us the most.

Serena Williams' entire year

The tennis superstar had our attention all year long. From chasing down an iPhone thief to the important stuff: landing her sixth Wimbledon title, a 21st major title, her second career Serena Slam, AND the third leg of the calendar Grand Slam after a sweet victory over Garbine Muguruza, the tennis phenomenon had quite the year. Though her 2018 season ultimately ended in heartbreak, canceling her bid to become the fourth woman to win the calendar Grand Slam, she rose to the top once again when she was named Sports Illustrated's 2018 Sportsperson of the Year today.

Misty Copeland was promoted to principal dancer

While most of us were still trying to perfect our ballerina buns, Misty Copeland was promoted to principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre in June, making her the first female African-American dancer to reach that status in the 75-year history of the company. "When I see a crowd or audience full of little brown faces, watching me and seeing the possibilities, I can't help but think, 'Wow, there's hope'—not only for ballet, but for the next generation to truly believe in their dreams and be empowered to reach for them," she wrote in an essay for the Huffington Post.

The U.S. Women's National Team dominated the World Cup

Who runs the world? Obviously, the USWNT. The 23-player team dominated at the 2015 FIFA World Cup in July with a stellar 5-2 victory against Japan in the final, giving the U.S. its third world title and making us the only nation to ever achieve that feat. The champs were not only honored with their own parade in New York City—the first for a women's sports team—but they also received the Outstanding Team Award at the 2015 ESPY Awards.

Mo’ne Davis won big at the ESPYS

After becoming the first girl to earn a win and to pitch a shutout in Little League World Series history, 14-year-old Mo'ne Davis won the award for Best Breakthrough Athlete at the ESPYS. The young baseball star beat out New York Giants football player Odell Beckham Jr., Ohio State Buckeyes player Cardale Jones, and PGA golfer Jordan Spieth, proving to the world that (baseball) diamonds really are a girl's best friend.

Jen Welter became the first female coach in the NFL

Trailblazing Jen Welter inspired little girls everywhere who dreamed of being not only on the field, but also on the sidelines when she became the first female coach of any kind in the NFL in July. The Arizona Cardinals hired the former women's professional and semi-professional football player as an assistant coaching intern to work with inside linebackers. Speaking of her accomplishment Welter told CNN: "It's another dream that we as women, especially in sports, have been very limited in what we can dream. And now it's possible. And that's the best thing to know. Because though it wasn't a dream I had, now every little girl who loves football can grow up with that dream or one similar."

Simone Biles won the all-around world title...again

Reigning gymnastics champion, 18-year-old Simone Biles, made history in October when she claimed the all-around title at the world championships for the third time in a row. Although Biles stumbled in the early rounds, she was able to calm her nerves and pull it together for the win, making her the first woman to win three straight all-around world titles.

Last week she was named Female Olympic Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Olympic Committee—despite not being on an Olympic team yet. Keyword: yet. She was too young to qualify for the 2012 games in London, but it's all but certain she will rock the world in Rio for the 2016 Olympic Games next summer.

Holly Holm unseats Ronda Rousey

Underdog Holly Holm pulled off a stunning upset against the undefeated Ronda Rousey at the UFC 193 in November to become the new Women’s Bantamweight Champion. Not only that, but Holm remained a class act when many took to social media to criticize Rousey after her first loss. Holm told TMZ Sports that although she may be coming from a more “humble spot,” the fight wouldn’t have been possible without Rousey. “Ronda’s been a very dominant champ and she’s taken the sport to new levels. This fight wouldn’t’ve happened if she hadn’t accomplished what she’s accomplished, so I have a lot of respect for her,” she said.

This Is Why Meghan Markle Always Wears Shoes That Are Too Big For Her

It’s no secret that we’re 100% obsessed with Meghan Markle’s style, which is why we were more than a little intrigued when eagle-eyed fans noticed that the duchess often appears to wear shoes that are visibly too big for her feet. That’s right — a number of photos out there show Markle in shoes with noticeable space behind her heel.

However, it turns out there’s a highly logical explanation for this, and it just might be the high heel hack we’ve desperately needed all our lives.

Apparently, wearing heels a size or two too big is a well-known celebrity style hack. As fashion expert Harriet Davey told The Sun, “Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they’re at an event or on the red carpet and it’s for one reason we can all relate to — to avoid blisters.”

Davey added, "There's nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes (we've all been there on a night out) and when celebs like Meghan are wearing heels for a long period of time their feet can often swell up. The swelling can cause blisters, and in the long run, bunions."

There’s also a hack to prevent slipping (since, after all, the shoes are technically too big).

"A trick of the trade is to stuff the toe with padding like tissue or cotton wool, and this can be taken out once they feel like they need a bit more room in their shoes," Davey said.

Our toes will officially thank Meghan the next time we attend an event in stilettos.
