I am not a prophet but I believe strongly that Nigerian and Wolverhampton Goal Keeper,Carl Ikeme, will get into remission from Acute Leukaemia and return to the Goal post. News hit the airwaves over 2 weeks ago that, the 31-year old Goalie was diagnosed with Acute Leukaemia after pre-season blood investigation results revealed what turned out to be abnormally high levels of white blood cells (the component of blood supposedly responsible for fighting against infections).

Leukaemia, also referred to as cancer of the blood is associated with abnormal formation and multiplication of white blood cells, distorting the formation of other blood cell lines (red blood cells and platelets) and resulting in symptoms like: fever, bone pain, anaemia(low red blood cell levels),easy bruising, bleeding, weight loss etc. The exact cause remains unknown but Medical Scientists are seriously at work to make more meaning of potential risk factor information already available for further studies. Treatment is mainly via chemotherapy (chemical anti-cancer medications) and supportive management. Thankfully with the appropriate and early intervention, some people have survived in the past and will still continue to survive;though outcomes are quite unpredictable with some cases as well.
Sources reveal that, the very hardworking goalie is in good spirit as he has commenced treatment and is determined to overcome this unexpected health challenge. Just like your colleagues and other members of the global soccer community are already doing,we will continue praying for you Carl. Get well soon. For more information, refer to References below.
